A Few Foresights on
the 2009
Economy and Beyond (posted 1/1/09)

CAVEAT: If you invest,
it goes without saying (but I’ll say it anyway) always, always, always,
obtain several opinions, consult many sources of input, collect as
much information as possible, then combine that knowledge with your
own knowledge, experience and intuition.
So here's how
I see the economic situation for the future. There is bad and good
news:
A) FIVE HITS (including stock market acting exactly
as forecasted)
First the bad: On the whole in the USA, recession continues, foreclosures continue to rise, unemployment continues to rise, among other alarming news, but there will be a surprising rise in real estate sales near spring. The stock market in general will rise through spring, then have a drop, before a rise at end of the year. B)too early to tell Now for the good: We are in a 7 to 9 year cycle where the economy will grow eventually from recession (and even depression) to a “progression” at the end of this period, but not until then. A Renaissance of ingenuity and inventiveness is about to begin. It's a cycle of re-invigoration, of ingenuity, of invention and discovery, and a path toward a real prosperity rather than a fake affluence. This
is a time of learning, of growth within each of ourselves individually,
for the country as a whole and for our governemnt. It’s a time of
digging deep into our minds. I’ve said it for a long time. The MIND
ERA is coming. Realizations rarely occur when things are good. Learning
and elevation occur when we’re tested. That's what life is about.
It's not that we're down. It's what we learn when we're down. And
now we're experiencing the "honesting" of America. It's a time of
“honesting” ourselves.

In the end reality always wins.
And it's winning right now. And reality is good. It's the best
thing that could have happened. The Renaissance will occur, a time
of innovation, great ideas, new industries, adaptability, drive, enlightenment,
and a time of almost-unparalleled inspiration from certain leaders.
Those who combine the rational with the intuitive, along with
sincerity and passion will be a part of it.

C) A HIT re: algae with announcemnet on
Nov. 16th about algae helping injured mice walk again.
Two words: PLASTIC and ALGAE. (And no, I'm not Dustin Hoffman in the movie The Graduate.) These two images keep recurring in my gazes toward tomorrow. In some way they will have a bearing on the economy or make news in some way in the coming year. D) A hit, but this one was
probably too obvious, so I won't count it.
2009 will be the "Year of
Bargains."
E) A word on cycles: In a free market society, there are certain inevitabilities to the economy, certain cycles, or rotations of growth and recession, of inflation and depreciation, of rallies and crashes, of calm and rocky. These cycles occur to some degree because of the "breathing" (sometimes panting) of the various markets and industries that play a part in an overall economy, but in my view they occur in large part because GOVERNING IS REACTIONARY. Not a good thing. Government is always playing catch-up. The
residents of a neighborhood are aware of a dangerous intersection
and ask their representatives for a traffic light, yet nothing gets
done. A couple years go by, then a child is hit by a car.
What happens? Within a few days a traffic light is erected.
Reactionary. It happens time and again, locally, statewide and nationwide.
It’s become the timeless art of closing the barn door after the horses
have run off. The good news: I am foreseeing that our new administration
will be proactionary (Let's make that a word.), far more than we've
seen in many decades. Can they learn from the JAPAN depression
of the 1990s when that country was in a similar economic swoon
we are experiencing? If not, we will continue to be victims
of these cycles, and now a cyclone.

F)
In the long-term, far into the future, the Obama administration
will be lauded as one of the most successful presidencies in our country's
history, although in the process there may be times when it does not
seem like it. This is not a political statement, just a fact of what
I foresee.
G)
Expect a surprise near spring.
H)
And remember, there will be tremendous opportunity this year if we are adaptable,
creative, employ the greater capacity of our minds, extend a hand
to each other, and understand that numerous individuals
and small businesses will bring us back to overcome the
rubble of the few large entities which caused the quake.
